Podilymbus gigas

Podylimbimbus gigas or better known as Pato Poc in Guatemala was a specie of Atitlan. It was like a duck and it was like 50cm long.

Podilymbus gigas was a specie of duck that lived in the lake atitlan. Its diet was based mainly on crabs.

Its common name is Pato Poc. 

Where is from? 

The Podilymbus gigas was an species from Atitlan, a village 120 km away from Guatemala city and a central turistic place from Guatemala. 

Is it dead or alive? 

Podilymbus gigas is oficially extinct, last ones seen were in 1989. 

What are the causes? 

 

The causes of Podilymbus gigas extintion was because there was new species of bass introduced that ate the main food source of the Podilymbus gigas. Those bass even eated Poldilymbus gigas chicks and another cause of the extinction was because of the earthquake in Guatemala that produced a drought in Lake Atitlan.
